Abstract
1322097 Tunnel furnaces SAINT-GOBAIN 30 Nov 1971 [3 Dec 1970] 55565/71 Heading F4B A tunnel furnace for heat treating glass comprises a vault formed by a series of end-to-end vault sections each made up of a number of parts suspended from an external frame, including roof members 1, 2, 3, Fig. 1, and a pair of wall members 18, there being a gap 15, Fig. 2, between the roof members 1, 2, 3 of adjacent sections for the introduction of heat insulating screens 26, 27. The wall members 18 of adjacent sections normally abut each other but each member 18 is divided obliquely into two parts 18a, 18b which can be relatively moved on threaded hangers 19 to free the vertical abutting edges and allow the section to be lifted. The gaps between adjacent roof sections are normally closed by blocks 16 having lifting means 17. The sections are supported by pins 13 from parallel beams 12. A carriage running on rails 14 on the beams carries lifting gear to raise the vault section on its own framework of beams 9a, 9b. Pins 13 are first removed. Heating elements 6 are supported by bars 4b from ribs 4a on the underside of the roof members.
