Abstract

1320607 Watches SUWA SEIKOSHA K K 29 July 1971 [30 July 1970] 35689/71 Heading G3T An axially movable watch stem 11 carries a winding pinion 22 which, in the inner position of the stem, co-operates with a wheel 23 which is displaceable obliquely with respect to the stem axis and is urged by a spring 31 into engagement with the winding pinion 22. The wheel 23 is supported in elongated apertures 25, 27 in bridges 26, 28 and in the inner position of the stem it meshes with a ratchet wheel 32 for winding. In this position, internal splines on the pinion 22 are engaged by splines 21 on the stem 11. If the watch has an automatic winding device which acts on the ratchet wheel 32, the wheel 23 is moved out of engagement with the pinion 22 during such winding. In an intermediate position of the stem, see Figs.2 and 6 (not shown), a calendar setting wheel 33 which is fixed to the pinion 22 is brought into engagement with a calendar ring 34. The latter may indicate the date, day, or month. The pinion 22 is still driven by the splines 21 but is out of engagement with the wheel 23. In the outer stem position, see Figs. 3 and 7 (not shown), the splines 21 are disengaged from the pinion 22 and a time setting pinion 35 which is fixed to the stem 11 engages a crown gear 36 of a setting wheel 40 The three stem positions are determined by a spring 17 having a flange 18 which co-operates with reduced diameter portions 12, 13 and 14 of the stem. On pushing the stem inwards, if the splines on the stem and the pinion 22 fail to engage, the latter and the wheel 23 may be temporarily displaced inwards against the forces of springs 43 and 31 respectively, thus avoiding damage - see Figs.4 and 8 (not shown).
