Abstract
1320279 Electro-photographic developing apparatus INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 15 Dec 1971 [21 Dec 1970] 58162/71 Heading G2H A stream of toner particles is cascaded over an electrostatic latent image surface while it is under the influence of a development electrode, and then a stream of carrier particles is cascaded over the surface while it is away from the influence of the electrode in order to remove toner from background areas. Each stream may comprise both toner and carrier particles. As shown, a bucket conveyer 54 drops toner and carrier particles down both sides of an earthed or biased electrode 51 so that an image bearing surface 12 encounters a first stream of particles at an area 5D under the influence of electrode 51, and encounters a second stream of particles at an area 52 remote from the electrode. The carrier particles are preferably spherical steel shot of 300-600 microns diameter coated with P.T.F.E.
