Abstract

1315688 Electric starters for internalcombustion engines NIPPONDENSO KK 23 Nov 1970 [22 Nov 1969] 55540/70 Heading F1K An electric starter for an internal-combustion engine comprises a starter pinion 7a rotatably and axially movably mounted on the drive shaft 5 of a starter motor 3 and a solenoid 2 arranged on the motor, the arrangement being such that when the solenoid is energised its armature 11 moves the pinion axially towards the engine toothed wheel rim 14 and when the armature stroke is completed the motor is switched on, a conical meshing spring (not shown) being arranged between the armature and the pinion to permit the armature to complete its engaging stroke even when the starter pinion fails to mesh with the engine toothed wheel rim. The meshing spring is contained within a frontal recess of the armature.
