Abstract

1311544 Foundry plant; sand slinging moulding machines HITACHI SHIPBUILDING & ENG CO Ltd 5 Nov 1970 [5 June 1970 3 July 1970.(2) 6 July 1970] 52735/70 Heading B3F In a foundry, a sandslinger is suspended from a carriage 29 movable along a frame structure 21, itself movable along the length of the foundry on rails 23. The carriage 29 includes a hopper 36 which is charged with sand from a conveyer running along the side of the foundry when the slinger is positioned as shown in chained lines on the right of Fig. 1. A scraper 77 directs the sand through a shoot 78 into the hopper 36. The slinger head 60 is hung from, and revolvably and liftably mounted on, a hollow column 32 below the carriage 29. Sand is fed along the bore of the column, through an outlet pipe 38 and into an annular hopper 47 about the column 32. A sand-slinger jib-arm 56 can rotate about the column 32 on a bearing 48 and is liftable by a rack 34 and pinion. Sand from the annular hopper 47 falls on to a jib conveyer 63 on the jib arm 56 and is transported on to a ramming conveyer 64 on a ramming arm 58. The ramming arm carries a driver's seat 61, control panel 62 and slinger head 60 and is pivotable with respect to the jib arm 56 at 57. The column 32 may be telescopic or incorporate a bellows tube for conveying sand. An hydraulic piston and cylinder can be used instead of a rack and pinion for lowering and raising the slinger arm. In a further embodiment, the carriage hopper is omitted and the column supplied with sand from a conveyer belt extending along the frame structure.
