Abstract

1309866 Coated products INDUSTRIE PIRELLI SpA 19 May 1971 [20 May 1970 12 Feb 1971] 15731/71 Heading B2E A floating sleeve or ring for a flexible hose comprises a shaped body of a cellular high polymer having non-intercommunicating cells, at least part of the surface of the body being covered with a protective layer of polyurethane formed in situ, the protective layer being intimately adherent to the surface by reason of anchoring of the polyurethane to the cellular structure of the surface. Preferably the outer surface is removed before the application of the polyurethane-forming mixture. The polyurethane layer is preferably between 1 and 10 mm thick. The body may be constituted by a plurality of the preformed annular sub-members arranged axially along the flexible hose and joined together by a layer of adhesive, the polyurethane covering the layer, there being a reinforcing sheer fabric either sandwiched between the body and the polyurethane covering layer or incorporated within the thickness of the polyurethane layer.
