1287959 Floating offshore-structures INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE DES CARBUARANTS ET LUBRIFIANTS 22 Dec 1969 [24 Dec 1968] 62403/69 Heading EIH In a bottomless tank 13 for crude oil L a foating horizontal partition 1 prevents the ambient water H mingling with the oil and is furnished with flexible skirts 2 to seal the perimeter thereof and openings for oil pipes 10, 11 and a drain pipe 12. The partition may be made of polyethylene or two sheets of glass in resin laminated material with a layer of foamed polyurethane therebetween, and may be fabricated from tongued-and-grooved strips 7. To allow water 9 in suspension within the oil to escape each strip tapers inwardly and has a central row of openings 8. Each skirt may be made of polyethylene or a polyvinyl chloridepolypropylene compound and formed to the desired shape on a mold or matrix, Figs. 6 to 8 (not shown), before it is fixed to the partition. In horizontal cross-section the tank and the partition may be circular or polygonal.
