Abstract

1306085 Fuel injection pumps BRYCE BERGER Ltd 13 May 1970 [29 May 1969] 27151/69 Heading F1A The reciprocating plunger 14 of a fuel injection pump is provided with a longitudinally extending lubricant groove 23 which alternately communicates with a pressurized fuel passage 21 and a low pressure region. The passage 21 is in permanent communication with an annular inlet chamber 19 and supplies fuel to the groove 23 via an annular groove 22 in the plunger's periphery. As the plunger performs a suction stroke the groove 22 is cut-off from the passage 21 and the fuel in the grooves 22, 23 lubricates the plunger before escaping to low pressure when the lower end of the groove 23 extends below the lower end of the cylinder barrel 11.
