Abstract

1305751 Laminated products KIMBERLEYCLARK CORP 19 Feb 1970 [7 March 1969] 8071/70 Heading B5N [Also in Division D1] Non-woven scrim made from adhesivecoated threads is passed around a heated, arcuate release surface and separated from the surface after the adhesive has reached its elastomeric point. In the arrangement shown, laterally spaced threads 10 are coated with adhesive by passing them over a grooved roller 12. The threads pass on to an endless silicone rubber carrier belt 16 which is heated to increase the level of tack in the adhesive. A second set of spaced threads 22 are positioned on the first and extend transversely thereto to form a scrim. The bolt 16 and scrim 25 then pass over a heated arcuate release surface 26 so that the adhesive reaches at least its elastomeric point. The belt 16 is then separated from the surface 26 followed by separation of the scrim. Alternatively, both separations may take place simultaneously. Further adhesive may be applied to the scrim at 36 and 38 and layers of cellulosic wadding 40 and 40a applied thereto. The scrim material may be nylon, rayon or glass and the adhesive polyvinyl acetate in acetone, polyvinyl chloride or acrylonitrilebutadiene.
