Abstract

1309258 Fibrous laminates KIMBERLYCLARK CORP 19 Feb 1970 [7 March 1969] 8072/70 Heading B5N [Also in Division D1] A non-woven scrim is made by forwarding a first set of longitudinally moving laterally spaced threads 10, coating the threads with adhesive, depositing the threads on a carrier 16 heated to a temperature sufficient to increase the tack of the adhesive, positioning a second set of spaced threads 22 on, and extending transversely to, the first set 16, to form a non- woven scrim 26, separating the scrim 26 from the carrier 16, and bringing the scrim 26 into contact with a heated arcuate surface 30 to increase the strength of the scrim, the second set of threads 22 being positioned in contact with the arcuate surface. The adhesive can be a plastisol of polyvinyl chloride homopolymer or copolymer, acrylonitrile - butadiene copolymer emulsion, or a solution of polyvinyl acetate in acetone. The threads can be nylon. The carrier 16 can be heated prior to the deposition of the first set of threads by the oven 28. The scrim can be laminated by applying adhesive and cellulosie wadding 38, 38a and hot curing.
