Abstract

1301006 Removing waste products in industrial processes COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 29 June 1971 [17 July 1970] 34829/70 Heading F4X [Also in Division E1] A longwall, mineral-mining machine-mounting, hollow deck 16, 18 of an underframe slidably supported by means 10 on a conveyer 12 serves as a duct 14 for the guidance of a flow of air X along the underframe. The flow of air is caused by a fan 22 of an assembly 20 secured to the underframe adjacent one end of the duct. Dust-containing air and any methane entrapped about the cutter head 6 of the machine by flexible curtains 40, which partially surround the cutter head 6 and have flexible strips 40 engaging the roof of the seam being cut, is drawn through trunking 38, a dust-trapping chamber 34, the hollow deck-defined duct 14, a dust-trapping chamber 28 and filter 26 in the assembly 20 by the fan 22 and is discharged from the assembly 20 at 43 dust free and with a methane content being so distributed therein that the air/methane discharge is safe.
