Abstract

546,289. Confining dust in industrial processes. JONES, T. D., and TERRELL, W. A. Jan. 1, 1941, No. 39. [Class 8 (ii)] [Also in Group XXI] For reduction of dust in coal mines employing coal conveyers, means is provided for withdrawing dust-laden air from over the point where one or more face conveyers 11, 13, discharge to a loading conveyer 12 or to a loading shoot, and means for treating the air for removal of dust and thereafter discharging the air, said means being supported from the roof of the mine working. As shown, a sheet metal canopy 14 is suspended by adjustable strips 19 from a rail 17 fastened to the mine arches 18, and has a frustum 20 of belting with slots 21 to allow free delivery of the conveyed material ; the canopy is connected to a duct 22 suspended by strips 23 and containing a fan 24, precipitation chamber 25 with baffles 26 and doors 27 for removing deposited matter, liquid-spraying means 28 and a chamber 29 depositing sludge to one side of the conveyer 12.
