Abstract

1398764 Granulating metals MANNESMANN AG 30 May 1972 [27 May 1971] 25330/72 Heading C7X A process for producing metal powder comprises subjecting an annular stream 3 of melt 2 to a blast of atomizing fluid, either from inside the annular stream or outside. Fig. 1 shows the stream 3 being atomized by a blast of gas 8 issuing from a gap between a hollow guide-member 4 and an adjustable plug 5. In another embodiment Fig. 4, (not shown), the atomized particles are subjected to a further upwardly-directed gas blast. Fig. 3 shows the annular stream 3 atomized by a ring nozzle 10, a gas blast from the guidemember 4 serving to retain the tubular nature of the stream. In a further embodiment Fig. 2 (not shown) the guide-member 4 is replaced by a mandrel (9).
