Abstract

1398581 Tanks with floating roofs BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 19 Sept 1972 [20 Sept 1971] 43283/72 Heading EIT A floating roof for a large capacity storage tank comprises a central hub 1, at least one floating rim 6 disposed concentrically thereof, tensioning cables interconnecting the rims to the hub and a cover 17 supported by the hub and the rims. Each rim is provided with stabilizing means 6b and the cables are connected to the rim by pulleys. The cover 17 may consist of trapezoidal elements joined to-gether and have storm water discharge means 16. The tank may be semi-buried and provided with a cover of double skin construction to form therebetween a pressurisable enclosure. The cover may be of plastics material and equipped with an access ladder, vent holes, heating means and suction valves as necessary. The cables may be encased in polyvinyl chloride and the rims filled with polyurethane foam.
