Abstract

1397542 Detecting pipeline pigs ERNESTLLOYD Ltd 17 May 1972 [17 Feb 1971] 54121/74 Divided out of 1397541 Heading GIN [Also in Division F2] A pipeline pig includes a magnet for producing a magnetic field, detectable outside the pipeline, to enable the position of a jammed pig to be discovered or the passage of a pig through the pipeline to be monitored by using apparatus disclosed in the parent complete Specification (Divisions Gl and G4). As shown in Fig. 1, cylindrical magnets 10-12 and pole pieces 14, 15 are mounted on a rod 13 within a non-magnetic casing 20. Washers 21, 22, for sealingly engaging the pipeline wall, are mounted on the pole pieces and prevent the latter from touching the pipeline wall. The pig may include brushes, two extra washers or scraper blades, Figs. 3-5 (not shown).
