1394774 Clamps F D WERNER 2 May 1973 [3 May 1972 15 Dec 1972] 20898/73 Heading E2B A fastener assembly on or for retaining a flexible sheet of material comprises a channel shaped member 12 having a base 21 and a pair of side walls 20, 23, each of the walls having a concave surface facing the other wall the walls having upper edges defining an opening of width less than the maximum dimension between the concave surfaces and a retainer assembly on or for attachment to the flexible sheet and for fitting into the channel and comprising two bead members 14, 15 which are movable relatively to each other to permit individual insertion of both bead members into the channel member 12 each of the bead members when side by side within the member 12 engaging one of the concave surfaces and thereby being retained therein, a first of the concave surfaces being of substantial depth and the second forming a shallow detent so that the bead member engaging the second surface may be individually released from engagement with the second surface for removal of the bead members from the channel member. The bead members 14, 15, Fig. 1 are enclosed within a hem of the flexible sheet which is stitched between the bead members so that they are relatively movable and is stitched laterally to provide a tab 28A, Fig. 5 for releasing the fastener. As shown in Fig. 6, the plastics bead members are hinged together by a reduced central portion and the cover is stitched to provide a central tab 35. As shown in Fig. 8, the resilient bead members 51, 52 are integrally moulded with a lateral tab 56 and a tab 54 securable to a cover 55. Each bead member may comprise a series of portions which are separate or threaded or integrally moulded with a filament. To render the fastening weatherproof a resilient strip 72, Fig. 9 may be bonded to the inside surface of the channel member 70.
