Abstract

1389169 Boots &c A DASSLER 5 April 1973 [7 April 1972] 16326/73 Heading A3B A sports shoe has a sole 2 of flexible synthetic material, the tread surface of the sole 2 being formed with moulded crossbars 3, 4, the crossbars 3, 4 in turn being formed with roof shaped projections 6 (Fig. 3a). The crossbars 3, 4 may be of triangular cross section as shown or may be semi-circular or trapezoidal cross section, and they may be arranged in two sets of rows to form a diamond shaped pattern as shown in Fig. 1 or they may all be arranged transversely of the sole i.e. at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the sole. One or more ribs 9, 12 may also be formed around the edge of the sole and the ribs 9, 12 may be formed with roof-shaped projections 10, 11 respectively. The roof shaped projections may be formed by stepped portions 6a and 6b as shown in Fig. 3b. The projections 6 may be arranged in zig-zag fashion in rows extending across the sole as shown in Fig. 1. Alternatively the projections may be arranged in double rows to form diamond shaped patterns. The sole may also be provided with support plates 14 (Fig. 4) for spikes (not shown), the plates being embedded in the sole. The support plates 14 may be surrounded by annular ribs 18 which are divided into segments 20 by incisions 19. The soles are particularly useful for use on running tracks of synthetic material.
