Abstract
1386955 Mixing in conduits A P V Co Ltd 12 Sept 1972 [17 Sept 1971 14 April 1972] 43536/71 and 17345/72 Heading B1C A static mixer for flowing gases, liquids or fluent solids comprises a tube 1 enclosing a plurality of elements, some at least of the elements each consisting of a plurality of striplike members as 4, 5 and 6, 7 twisted about a longitudinal median axis and arranged with those axes parallel, the elements being arranged in series in spaced, overlapping or (as shown) abutting relationship with their adjacent ends differently orientated. Each element may consist of two members the width of each of which is half the diameter of the tube, but there may be three or four members per element (see Figs. 2 and 3, not shown); the members may be twisted through 180 as shown, or 90; the members of an element may be of the same or opposite hand, as may be successive elements; the tube 3 may have a heat exchange jacket. In another embodiment (see the only Fig. of Provisional Specification 17345/72, not shown) these multiple-member elements alternate with elements consisting of a single member the width of which is equal to the diameter of the tube and the twist of which is greater or less than 90, e.g. by 22¢, so that each successive multiplemember element is advanced or retarded.
