Abstract

1280360 Mixing apparatus MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO KK and IDEMITSU PETROCHEMICAL CO Ltd 8 Oct 1969 [8 Oct 1968] 49426/69 Headings B1C and B1X A reactor for high viscosity, e.g. polymerisation, materials has a cylindrical vessel 1 with a heat exchange jacket, a coaxial draft tube 2 with a rotatable helical ribbon agitator-scraper 5 therein, and a plurality of agitators in the annular space between the tube and the vessel, at least one of the latter agitators being a helical ribbon of opposite band to that in the draft tube and arranged to scrape the wall of the tube or of the vessel. As shown there are two outer helical ribbons 8, 9 scraping the walls of the vessel 1 and the tube 2 respectively, and rotating with the agitator 5 so that they promote circulation in the same direction. Either may be replaced by a straight scraping vane agitator (15) having slots (16) to reduce resistance, see Figs. 2-4 (not shown). The draft tube 2 has a hollow wall for passage of a heat exchange medium.
