Abstract

1375760 Glass melting furnace KOMBINAT LAUSITZER GLAS VEB 5 June 1972 26150/72 Heading C1M [Also in Division F4] In a glass melting furnace heated by a burner in the rear wall and charged in a zone near the front wall, two rows of jet nozzles 4, 5, Fig. 3, are arranged in a homogenizing zone intermediate the front and rear walls. The charging zone extends the full width of the furnace, and the glass flows from a trough 6 at the burner end of the furnace to a vertical shaft leading to the glass offtake 18. The furnace may be regeneratively heated, sets of burners 7 at either side of the rear wall operating alternately and the gases passing out through an aperture 8 above the non-operative burners to give a U- shaped flame, Fig. 2, or a set of burners extending the full width of the furnace may operate recuperatively, the outlet flue being at the charging end (Fig. 6). The size and spacing of the blowing nozzles are such that the bubbles merge at the glass surface, and the flow of gas through the nozzles is regulated according to the glass out flow, and may vary across the furnace width.
