Abstract

1374336 Laminates SOC SCAAL 10 March 1972 [15 March 1971] 11382/72 Heading B5N Apparatus to bond a flat support, e.g. leather or fabric, on a film of settable plastics material, e.g. polyurethane, comprises a spray 13 to spray the plastics material in a liquid state on to an engraved or moulded non-adhesive surface 14a of a mould 14 to make a film and a press 5 to press a flat support on to the film to bond them after curing of the plastics material, the press comprising a frame, two superposed moving belts extending around rollers and bearing against each other, drivably connected in synchronism with a conveyer 2a which passes under the lower belt, one of the rollers of the lower belt being arranged to smooth the flat support at the input and output of the apparatus, a feed surface 45 for feeding the flat support to the press, an adjuster to adjust the bearing force of each roller on the corresponding belt and positioning means for vertically and horizontally adjusting the position of the frame relatively to the conveyer, the conveyer supporting the mould. In Fig. 1 mould 14 is fed by conveyer 1 made from a plurality of endless wires 6 disposed side-by-side between drums 7 and 8 and having disposed beneath it metal support plate 11, to space 3 in which rollers 4 and nozzle 13 are disposed. In the press the upper belt may be stretched between two rollers engaged with three other rollers around which the lower belt is disposed. The roller which drives the lower belt and is disposed at the feed end of the flat support may be formed by a succession of sub-rollers disposed side by side along the same shaft, each of the rollers preferably being in the form of a central ballbearing enclosed in a layer of cellular material itself located in a sleeve of foam rubber, the Shore hardness of which does not exceed that of the film. The other rollers may also comprise an outer sleeve of foam rubber having the same hardness.
