Abstract

1,160,891. Laminates. H. SULLHOFER. 13 July, 1966 [22 July, 1965], No. 31538/66. Heading B5N. In a method of producing hard polyurethane foam sheets lined on both sides with a thin flexible foil 19, 21 by applying foam forming reactants to one of the foils 19 and moving it at a speed corresponding to the speed of the reaction, prior to the application of the reactants, narrow edge strips 24, 25 are respectively placed under the edges of the lower narrower foil 19 which is freely laterally movable independently of the upper relatively wide foil, the edge strips being folded upwards, and, during the foaming process, the two foils with the edge strips are guided in such manner as to move freely laterally allowing surplus foam to escape laterally between the edge strips and the upper foil 21. The foils, which may be of paper, are drawn from reels 18, 20 by conveyer belts 12, 13 supported by plates 16, 17, the foam liquid being sprayed on the lower foil 19 from a nozzle 33. The edge strips 24, 25 are drawn off wheels 22, 23 and supported by guides 28 adjustable for width on angle pieces 26. The purpose of the edge strips is to prevent for foam adhering to the guides and lower conveyer 12. The edges are trimmed at 32 and the laminate is cut into sheets. The upper conveyer belt 13 may be replaced by a guide roller.
