Abstract
1369658 Protective devices for dynamoelectric machines UNELEC 23 Nov 1971 54473/71 Headings H2A and H2K In combination with a rotatable member, e.g. a rotor 1 of a squirrel cage electric motor a system for detecting thermal overloads of said member comprises a magnet 5 carried by the member and a stationary magnetic field detector 7 located to be responsive to the field from the magnet during rotation of the member and a member 6 of a magnetic material of which the permeability is temperature dependent and of which the Curie point corresponds to an overload temperature to be detected and arranged on the rotatable member so that it lies between the magnet and the field detector when the magnet pases the detector during rotation of the rotatable member. The magnet is a permanent bar magnet and the magnetic member 6 is secured to an end thereof. Alternatively the magnetic member 6 may be secured to the periphery of the rotor outside of the magnetic circuit of the rotary machine on a conductor such as the short circuiting ring 4 of a squirrel cage motor, a coil head of a wound rotor, a synchronous motor inductor or the collector plate of a D.C. motor. The signal emitted by the detector (Hall effect or magnetic resistor) operates an alarm and/or triggers the supply switch for the motor.
