Abstract

1368115 Weighing apparatus CONRAIL A B 9 Sept 1971 [21 Sept 1970] 42170/71 Heading G1W To weigh a rail-guided vehicle, a device is provided which comprises a frame including two beams 5 which are supported transversely of the main rails either on the rails on which the vehicle runs or on the rail foundation, and two vehicle supporting portions 2 which are supported on the frame by load sensing means such as load cells 4, the portions 2 being parallel to and adjacent the main rails, either within the main rails (as shown) or outside the main rails Fig. 5 (not shown) the portions 2 being connected either by a flexible portion of the supporting means 3 (as shown) or by a transversly extending axle or torsion member Figs. 4 and 7 (not shown) so that the portions 2 can move angularly relative to one another about an axis which is perpendicular to the portions 2 and is in the plane thereof. Stops 11 prevent movement of the frame along the main rails and tie rods 8 protect against side loads. As a vehicle moves over the device its wheels ride up on sections 7 of the portions 3 and its weight is sensed by the load cells 4, which may be of compression, shear or bending type. As in Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown) the frame may have small wheels (17), (18) by which the weighing device can be moved along the main rails.
