Abstract

1367745 Wells &c F M C CORP 14 Nov 1972 [14 Dec 1971] 52481/72 Heading ElF An underwater well having a casing 22 is completed by connecting a riser 30 to the casing, feeding a tubing string 36 through the riser and supporting the string in the well adjacent the riser, feeding a tubing extension 48 with a flow control valve 50 into the riser and releasably connecting the extension to the string 36 so that the valve can be withdrawn from the well without disturbing the string. The casing has a hanger 26 supported by a further hanger 27 and a fitting 28 connects the hanger 26 to the riser which is provided with blow-out preventers 34 at the surface. The spring 36 and a tubing hanger 38 are positioned in the well by a removable running spring 40. A tubing string 42 is run into the well and supported by the hanger 38 by means of a removable running string 44. Extensions 48, 54 with valves 50, 56 are fed into the riser and connected to the hanger 38. Back pressed valves are run into the tubing hanger before removing valves 50, 56 with the extensions. The valves 50, 56 are kept open by maintaining pressure in the annulus 90 or in hydraulic control lines.
