Abstract
1,008,383. Wells. SUN OIL CO. July 5, 1962 [Oct. 4, 1961], No. 25859/62. Heading E1F. A flow control device comprises an outer housing 16 adapted to be retrievably locked at a predetermined position in a well tubing string 13, and an inner housing 31 adapted to be retrievably fastened in the housing 16. The string is contained in casing 10 perforated at 11, 12 to communicate with production zones A, B. A landing nipple 15 included in the string is perforated at 17 above lower packing 14 and below upper packing (not shown). The housing 16 is latched to the nipple by a wire line tool, and carries packing 21, 22 on either side of perforations 19. The latches are associated with keys adapted to engage and fit within a groove in the nipple, the arrangement being that the keys stop the housing 16 at the nipple so that the latches may be set. A pressure equalizing member 25 may be operated by jars when it is desired to remove the housing 16 from the string. The housing 31 is latched to the housing 16 by a wire line tool, and carries packing 33, 34 on either side of perforations 38. Fluid from zone A follows a path 30 to pass through a choke 39 into the string above the device, a non-return valve 23 within the housing 16 preventing fluid flowing back into the zone. Fluid from the zone B follows a path 26 to pass through a choke 37 into the string above the device to mix with the fluid from the zone A, a non return valve 24 being incorporated within the housing 16. The string is plastic coated, and an abrasion resistant ring 28 which is opposite the zone A forms the lower connection of the nipple. In a modification for producing from a single zone, the member 25 is dispensed with, the fluid from the zone passing axially upward through the housing and discharging through a choke into the string above the device.
