Abstract
1367424 Coated products AB DICK CO 5 June 1972 [10 June 1971] 26167/72 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions B5 and B6] A book-binding tape comprises a substrate formed of a high melting point (e.g. above 500F) polymeric material, a low temperature (100-300F) reactivatable adhesive layer 7-25 mils thick on one side thereof and a non- tacky overlayer which does not interfere with the adhesive during use of the tape. The substrate may particularly be of polyethylene terephthalate, polycarbonate or polysulphone and the adhesive of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer plus a terpene or rosinate or polyvinyl acetate which may be blended with polyethylene and/or rubber, optionally together with a pigment. The adhesive is applied as a solution, emulsion or hot melt by flow, spray, dip or roll coating. There may be an intermediate coating of pigmented polyvinylidene chloride and the substrate may be printed prior to coating. The non-tacky layer may be provided over the adhesive coating either by dusting on and fusing micro-crystalline wax or polyethylene or by laminating to the adhesive layer a stencilbase tissue, open mesh cotton gauze or open woven polyester or polyamide fabric.
