Abstract

1354978 Laminates BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK AG 8 Sept 1971 [9 Sept 1970] 41798/71 Heading B5N [Also in Division B2] A magnetic ledger card consists of a base comprising a layer of plastics material, e.g. stretched or unstretched polyvinyl chloride, having a thickness of 20-160 Á sandwiched between two layers of paper each having a thickness of 20-70 Á, which is provided with a magnetic coating on one or both outer surfaces. The paper used may be wood-free typewriting paper weighing 30-50 g./m.<SP>2</SP>. Lamination of polyvinyl chloride sheeting between two layers of paper may be effected continuously at roll temperatures of 110-170‹ C., a nip pressure of 15-28 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> and at a speed of 10-60 m./min., or the bases may be made individually in presses under these conditions. Hot melt adhesives, e.g. a copolymer containing 20-40% by weight of vinyl chloride, 20-40% by weight of vinyl acetate and 20-40% by weight of nbutyl acrylate, vinylidene chloride polymers, polyacrylates and synthetic rubber may be applied to both surfaces of the plastics sheet at a thickness of 0À3-1À8 Á. The magnetic coating may comprise a dispersion of 3 parts by weight of magnetic pigment, e.g. gamma iron (III) oxide, magnetite or ferromagnetic chromium dioxide, 1 part by weight of vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer and 6 parts by weight of solvent, e.g. ethyl acetate, and may have a thickness of 10-30 Á after drying at elevated temperature. The magnetic coating may coverthe entire surface of the base or may be in the form of a strip or strips parallel to the long sides of the magnetic ledger card. At least one of the longitudinal sides of the card may be perforated.
