Abstract

1367172 Knitting-machines WILDT MELLOR BROMLEY Ltd 6 Dec 1972 [20 Dec 1971 30 March 1972] 59155/71 and 15006/72 Heading D1C A pattern device for a circular, flat or straight-bar machine comprises a butt-engaging arm 11 having a part 18 attractable between pole faces 15, 16 of a permanent magnet 14 by an electromagnetic coil 17. In a circular machine a bank of arms act on needle jack pressers. The arms may be pivoted about axes 13 radial or tangential to the needle cylinder. Electromagnets in the bank may be staggered, and so that the ends 12 have a common deflection despite arms of different length, the thicknesses of parts 18 or gaps between the pole faces differ. Alternatively the bank may comprise alternate one- and twoarm selectors (Fig. 11 not shown), or pivots at opposite ends of the bank (Fig. 12 not shown). In other embodiments the arms may comprise a clamped spring (Fig. 7 not shown), or a slidable member (Figs. 8-9 not shown). In the embodiment of Fig. 13 the arm 44 is housed in a slot and pivots about its lateral edge opposite the attracted part 52. Buttengaging parts 58 drop below butts 9. The arms are retained by a pin 48 in over-size holes 49. In a variant the butt-engaging and attracted parts are joined by a spindle. In a further embodiment the selectors comprise a bank of two-arm levers pivoted at their mid points on a vertical axle. One arm engages the butts, the other is attracted by the magnetic-device.
