Abstract
1327431 Knitting machines K FLAD 4 Nov 1970 [14 Nov 1969] 52492/70 Heading D1C A knitting machine has a Jacquard patterning device with an information read out device for controlling a needle selecting device associated with groups of electromagnets 117 each having an armature 114 connected to an adjustable guide face 112 by which parts 102 associated with the needles can be displaced to positions where they respectively affect or do not affect the needles, the adjacent guide faces being offset in superimposed planes transverse to their movement relative to the parts each armature having a separate drive to move it against the electro magnet. As the cylinder rotates, a cam 108 lifts the jacks 102 out of the tricks 103 so that the butts 106 project and the end recesses 105 of selected jacks engage on edge 110 of lifter cam 109 which moves the jacks axially but prevents radial movement. Selector sliders 111 move radially between two positions in a guide rail 136 and in their inner position their inclined end faces 112 engage corresponding jack butts 106 to push the associated jacks, into their tricks. The jacks are slightly narrower than the tricks and are bent or corrugated to hold them therein Sliders 111 are each attached to a rod 113 pivoted on an armature 114 which, when in contact with the electro magnet holds the slider in its outer position. One end of a pivoted rocker 122 has a slot which embraces rod 113 and has elongated openings 123 which receive a pin 120 secured to rod 113 and the other end carries a roller 124 biassed against a cam disc 125 by springs 126, 131. Disc 125 has a quarter with a large radius connected by short transition parts to three quarters with a small radius. Eighteen selection arrangements are provided corresponding to eighteen butts 106 at different levels on successive jacks and all rockers 122 are carried on a common shaft 121 as are all cam discs 125 which are successively offset by the same angle. When roller 124 engages the smaller radius part of disc 125, slider 111 is held out of the path of butts 106 when roller 124 engages the larger radius part of disc 125, rocker 122 is rotated against spring 126 and, if electromagnet 117 is energized, it detains armature 114 and face 112 remains outside and, if electromagnet 117 is not energized, spring 131 pulls armature 114 off poles 115 and 116 and face 112 presses the next jack into its trick so that it misses cam 109. In another arrangement, jacks 142 are controlled by longitudinally slidable sliders 151 biassed by springs 166 against a rail 170 which is displaceable in the same direction as the sliders and also across that direction to engage a hook 169 on the end of the slider. Levers 175 pivoted on either side of each slider 151 have rounded ends which are spring biassed into engagement with slider 151 to hold it against spring 166 and carry, at their other ends, magnet armatures 154 associated with electro magnets 157. A pair of rails 179 are periodically displaceable to rotate levers 175 out of engagement with their associated slider 151. The pattern information is carried in rows or columns on a perforated tape, there being as many rows or columns as there are systems which are to be controlled differently. The information from each line of perforations is read by a beam of light 33 which acts on a photo-cell 54 when there is a perforation in the tape and the information is fed to amplifier 35. The information for the electromagnets is separated by a distributor which closes in turn the switch 38 connecting amplifier 35 to each electromagnet by a roll 36 rotated in synchronism with the band and carrying cams 37 to close the switches 38. The mechanical drive may be hydraulic or pneumatic.
