Abstract

1365320 Sintered composite annular metallic bodies FEDERAL-MOGUL CORP 6 Dec 1971 56588/71 Heading C7D [Also in Division F2] Sintered composite metallic mechanisms such as a bevel pinion Fig. 6 and a tapered roller bearing unit Fig. 16 comprising a sintered metal annular support and a sintered alloy annular working member are made by pressing and sintering the separate annular bodies and then pressing one into the other. The support may be the inner or outer member and the friction surface is frusto conical. The support annulus may be made from Fe powder and the working member made from an alloy containing up to 0À25% Mn, 1À75-2% Ni, 0À35-0À6% Mo and balance Fe. The inner Fe support 22 of bevel pinion 20 is compacted in a conventional die as shown in Figs. 3 and 4 and the outer toothed annulus 24 is compacted in the conventional die as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
