Abstract

1360361 Safety belt &c buckles FIRESTONE TIRE & RUBBER CO 2 Aug 1972 [21 March 1972] 36093/72 Heading E2A A buckle comprises a pair of tongue plates 16, 17 and a housing 18, the tongue plates each having means for connection to webbing and being adapted to fit in the housing in overlapping relationship to provided a pair of aligned openings 20, 29 for a releasable latch member 26 in the housing to enter for fastening the tongue plates together and whereby the plates can be released for removing one of the plates from the housing by releasing the latch member, the other of the tongue plates being fixed in the housing against withdrawal therefrom. As shown, the plate 16 is provided with a shoulder 35 which, when the plate is inserted is forced through the opening 21, prevents withdrawal of the plate. The latch plate 26 is formed with flanges 40 received in grooves 41 in the legs 30 of a push button 19 pivoted, by a protrusion 42, in a groove of the casing, the plate having a lug 25 for engagement in the holes 20, 29 of the tongue plates and being urged to the latching position by a spring 27. Depression of the plate 19 disengages the lug 25 from the hole 20 in the plate 17 which can then be withdrawn from the housing. In a modification, (a) the plate 16 is provided with channel-shaped lugs for reception of the plate 17, the plate 19 has a flange on the side thereof opposite to that of the hinge 42 and which engages under a stop of the housing, the legs 30 bearing on the flanges 40 of the latch 25, and (b) a channelshaped, strengthening insert is cast in the housing.
