Abstract

1357465 Stopping 2:1 twister PALITEX PROJECT-CO GmbH 20 Nov 1972 [29 Nov 1971] 53623/72 Heading DID [Also in Division F2] A 2:1 twister is stopped in a predetermined position by a brake shoe 36 which is pneumatically moved against a braking surface 26 of the spindle, and which has a compressed air passage opening out onto the braking surface of the brake shoe, and which is arranged to communicate with a thread passage duct 28 in the storage disc. A drive belt tensioning roller 6 is moved away from the drive belt during braking so that the drive belt exerts a slight rotating force on the spindle. During braking air flowing through the braking shoe 36 forms an air cushion on the braking surfaces (and the spindle thereby continues to rotate slowly) until the passage to the threadduct 28 communicates with the passage 43 in the brake shoe. Then the air cushion collapses and the spindle is finally braked in that position. Air flowing into the duct in the storage disc creates an air flow used to thread a broken yarn end through the twister. The brake may be actuated upon detection of a broken end or failure of supply of yarn. The movement of the brake shoe 36 against the spindle may lift the belt tensioning roller off the belt (Fig. 5 not shown). There may be a stationery braking arrangement at each spindle (Figs. 1-5). Alternatively, the braking device may be mounted on a travelling unit which operates its spindle brake as it passes the spindle with a broken end. A thread sensor at each spindle causes a brake operating arm (86) to swing into the path of the travelling brake unit to operate the brake, (Figs. 6-8 not shown). Alternatively, a spindle brake at each spindle may be actuated upon sensing a yarn break, then as a braking unit bands past the spindle the travelling unit is stopped, the first brake is released and a second brake, which allows the spindle to rotate to the predetermined position (as described above), is applied, (Figs. 10-16 not shown).
