Abstract

1354733 Flavourings INTERNATIONAL FLAVORS & FRAGRANCES Inc 5 Aug 1971 [21 Aug 1970 10 March 1971(2)] 36851/71 Headings A2B and A2C [Also in Divisions A5 and C2] The flavour or aroma of an organoleptically sensible material (e.g. foodstuff, tobacco, perfume) is altered by adding thereto a small but effective amount of one or more pyrimidines having the formula: wherein X is S, O or C(R)(R'); each of R and R' is H or alkyl; R 1 is H, alkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio or cycloalkylthio; R 2 is H, alkyl or alkylthio; and R 3 -R 6 are the same or different and are H or alkyl, with the proviso that not both R 1 and R 3 are alkylthio. The amount of pyrimidine compound added preferably represents from 10<SP>-9</SP> to 3000 parts per million parts by weight of said material.
