1352686 Beds SLUMBERLAND GROUP Ltd 7 May 1971 [8 May 1970] 22225/70 Headings A4J and A4M A bed comprises an unsprung padded mattress 12 in a cover 13 with a skirt 14 detachably secured to a spring interior support 2 with an insulating layer 6 on which the mattress rests, the mattress and support defining therebetween a peripheral gap 20 at the sides and foot end to receive tuck-in portions of bedclothes. As shown, Fig. 2, the skirt 14 is secured by stitching 18 to the underside of the mattress 12. The lower edge 22 of the skirt 14 is engaged beneath the support 2 and may be elasticated and provided with releasable hook fasteners. In a modification, Fig. 4, a separate decorative collar comprising a strip 24 with elasticated edges 25, 26 respectively engageable in the gap 20 and beneath the support 2. The padding of the mattress 12 may comprise plastics fibres or expanded polystyrene granules. The insulating layer 6 may comprise cotton felt or foam plastics. The support includes a wooden base 1 supported on a plinth 8 formed by four panels 9, 10 which may be permanently fixed to the base 1 or hinged thereto so that they may be folded against the underside of the base in the knocked-down condition of the bed. The plinth may house a drawer. The mattress may include an integral bolster or a pocket to receive a pillow and may include an electrical blanket either incorporated therein or fitted thereto.
