Abstract

1,177,325. Securing upholstery. KNOLL ASSOCIATES Inc. 12 Feb., 1968, No. 40988/68. Divided out of 1,177,324. Heading A4M. A method of upholsterihg a chair having a wooden frame 10 supporting a unitary, moulded plastics shell 50 defining the seat and back, comprises contacting the frame 10 with a peripheral flange 50b of the shell 50, securing the flange 50b to the frame 10 by staples 56 passed through a groove 50f in the flange 50b, and covering the flange 50b with a marginal portion of a foam rubber pad 52 secured to the shell 50. The pad 52 may be glued to the shell 50 either before or after the shell 50 is secured to the frame 10. Marginal portions of upper and lower fabric covers 54 are disposed between the flange 50b and the frame 10.
