Abstract

1352361 Stranding machines NATIONALSTANDARD CO Ltd 25 Aug 1972 [26 Aug 1971] 40070/71 Heading D1T A machine for twisting strands together includes at least a rotary twisting component disposed within a chamber, and means for evacuating the chamber to reduce noise and heat emission. In Fig. 1 stranding heads 4, 5 and cradle 12, supporting spools 17, rotate within evacuated chamber 33, and the twisted strands are wound on spool 30a via capstan 30. As modified (Fig. 4, not shown) the spool and capstan are replaced by twist heads and a wind-up spool rotating within an extended chamber, Fig. 2 (not shown) shows the rotary tube of a tubular stranding machine contained within an evacuated chamber, and in Fig. 3 stranding head 78, cradle 71 and wind-up spool 75 rotate within evacuated chamber 84. The chambers may include hinged access panels.
