Abstract

959,896. Wire twisting machines. SYNCRO MACHINE CO. Jan. 3, 1961 [Sept. 6, 1960], No. 250/61. Heading D1T. A wire bunching or twisting machine has a reel-supporting cradler 66 weighted so as to be supported against rotation within first and second oppositely rotating frames 36 and 10 respectively. Wires W, that are to be twisted together, are led through a nozzle 30, around pulleys P 1 to P 4 on the frame 10, around pulleys Ps to P 8 on the frame 36, and thence to a take-up reel 96 carried by the cradle 66 to produce four twisting actions. The reel 96 is driven through a slipping clutch 92. Frame 10 is rigid with a pulley 20 driven by a crossed belt 22. Frame 36 is rigid with a gear 64 driven by a pinion wheel 62 carried by the frame 10, the pinion wheel 62 being driven by a gear wheel 56 rigid with a pulley 50 driven by a belt 52. In a modified construction the rotational axis of the reel 96 is coaxial with the axis of rotation of the frames 10 and 36. By omitting the pulley P 8 and moving the pulley P 7 to the left, the machine now produces three twisting actions instead of the previous four. Instead of drawing the wires W into the above described machines the operation may be reversed by mounting wire supply neck and the nozzle 30 in the cradle 66, the resulting bunched or twisted wires being drawn off the pulley wheel P 1 by a capstan and take up reel.
