Abstract
1352127 Oscillating motors JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 10 Aug 1971 [11 Aug 1970] 38618/70 Heading H2A [Also in Division F1] A torque motor comprises a frame consisting of side and end members 11, 12 respectively of material of high magnetic permeability inside which a permanent magnet 13 is pivotally mounted and polarized such that opposite poles are presented to the side members 11, the frame also containing a winding 14, Fig. 2, arranged so that its magnetic axis is normal to the pivotal axis of the magnet, whereby when the winding is energized, the magnet tends to turn from the position shown, which it normally assumes, to one in which its magnetic axis is aligned with that of the winding. The winding may have a triangular cross-section to permit greater angular movement of the magnet, Fig. 3 (not shown). Alternatively, the magnet may be cylindrical and the winding and side members of the frame arcuate, Fig. 5 (not shown). The Specification also describes the application of the torque motor to the actuation of a valve in a combined fuel pump and control valve arrangement for an internal combustion engine (see Division F1).
