Abstract

1350598 Rolling mill guides HILLE ENG CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [6 March 1970] 10849/70 Heading B3M A mounting assembly for a rolling mill twist and/or stripper guide is arranged to yield should a cobble occur in a workpiece being rolled. The assembly includes a body 12 carrying a guide assembly 10, the body resting on a fixed base 16. A wedge unit 18 embraces one end of the body 12 and is located in undercut slots 26 in the base 16. The unit incorporates a base 24, side members 28 (Fig. 3), a top 30, and a reaction plate 32 supported by the side members. A metal or wooden wedge 36 is located between the plate 32 and body 12. To lock the assembly on the base in a desired position, a threaded rod 42 is rotated, the rod carrying at one end a wedge 46 which cooperates with the base. The rod tends to move the body 12 to the right (in Fig. 1) which causes the wedge 36 to clamp the unit 18 in the slots 26, and hence clamp the body 12. When a cobble occurs, the body 12 is urged towards the right, thus lessening the clamping force exerted by the rod 40, and allowing the wedge unit 18 to slide in the slots 26, and the assembly to be released.
