Abstract
1347554 Spinal supports TEMOVA ETAB 1 Sept 1971 [2 Sept 1970 17 Oct 1970] 40827/ 71 Heading A5R [Also in Division A3] A girdle comprises a trunk part 10 of knitted elastic fabric to surround the hip and lower dorsal region of a wearer, the fabric which is in direct contact with the skin consisting of spun synthetic fibres capable of producing static electricity by friction against the skin and having sufficient mesh opening to allow skin moisture to evaporate, the trunk part 10 being provided with two parallel stiffeners 13, 14 which after donning of the girdle lie adjacent to and along both sides of the spinal column, and an elastic band consisting of two parts 15, 16 which are fastened at 19, 20 to the trunk part 10 next to, but not overlapping the stiffeners 13, 14 and which after donning of the girdle can be fastened together at the front. The fabric of the girdle preferably consists of 80 to 90% polyvinyl chloride fibres with the remainder of acrylic fibres and the stiffeners are in the form of flat blades of plastics material located in fabric pockets 11, 12 in the trunk part 10. If desired each pocket may accommodate two blades the one nearer the spinal column being of stiffer material than the other. In alternative embodiments the parts 15, 16 of the elastic band may be inclined obliquely downwards towards the part of the girdle and a sliding clasp fastener may be incorporated at the front of the girdle to aid donning. The girdle is stated to be useful in the treatment of kidney and/or spinal disorders by giving support and providing a warming effect by the production of static electricity.
