Abstract
1,041,792. Laminates. AUTOMATIC BRAIDING CO. NOTTINGHAM Ltd. June 12, 1963 [May 29, 1962], No. 20537/62. Heading B5N. [Also in Division A3] A composite elastic band suitable for waistbands of shorts or trunks and ankle bands for track suits, is formed by adhesively securing within a sheath of knitted or similarly extensible fabric whilst it is in a " relaxed " condition a core of rubber or like material which is in a partially stretched condition. The knitted sheath 4 (Fig. 2), which has a pattern of spaced transverse wales DS, is folded over the edge of stretched core 3 the marginal edges 4a, 4b being adhesively secured and projecting to accommodate a row of stitching STG for securing the band to a garment. Before insertion in the sheath, the core 3 is provided with adhesive B all over or in spaced blocks, Fig. 3 (not shown). The core may comprise two spaced strips 3a, 3b, Fig. 4 (not shown), and the core and sheath may additionally be re-inforced by zig-zag stitching STGI. The band may be made by running a strip of knitted fabric over rollers and guide means to form the sheath and running the core into the sheath after application of the adhesive.
