Abstract
1345364 Vulcanizable rubber blends MONTEOATINI EDISON SpA 19 April 1971 [27 Feb 1970] 22688/71 Headings C3P and C3Q Vulcanizable blends comprise (A) 20 to 90‹ by weight of at least one elastomeric copolymer having an unsaturation of 0À1 to 0À5 moles/kg. of ethylene, an alphaolefin and at least one diene which introduces into the copolymer double bonds which are fast curing in the presence of sulphur and accelerators, said diene being selected from conjugated diolefins, trienes having two double conjugated bonds, non- conjugated dienes having double vinylidene bonds, non-conjugated dienes having double alkylidene bonds, and non-conjugated dienes having tri- or tetrasubstituted double bonds, (B) 10 to 80% by weight of at least one rubber selected from natural rubber, 1,4-cispolybutadiene, polychlorobutadiene, synthetic 1,4-cis-polyisoprene, styrene-butadiene rubbers and butadiene acrylonitrile rubbers, (C) a curing system consisting of (a) 2 to 10 parts of sulphur per 100 parts by weight of the elastomers, (elastomeric copolymer plus rubber); (b) 1 to 10 parts of a sulphenamide accelerator per 100 parts by weight of elastomers. The alpha olefin of the terpolymer is preferably propylene and the diene is selected from 6-methyl-4,7,8,9-tetrahydroindene, 5,6-dimethyl-4,7,8,9-tetrahydroindene, 2-ethylidene-norbornene-5, 2-isopropenyl-norbornene-5, 4-methyl-tricyclo(6,2,1,0<SP>2-7</SP>)undecadiene-4,9, the sulphenamide being selected from N-cyclohexyl-2-benzothiazyl-sulphenamide, N- t-butyl-2-benzothiazyl-sulphenamide, N-oxydiethyl-2-benzothiazyl sulphenamide, N,N<SP>1</SP>- diethyl-2-benzothiazyl-sulphenamide, morpholine disulphide. The blends are formed by conventional mixing vulcanization being at 120- 220‹ C. for 1 to 120 minutes, tyres, conveyer belts, sheets, sheaths, tubes, gaskets and cables may be made from the above blends.
