Abstract
1345147 Continuous discharge mixer ENGINEERING DESIGN & PRODUCTION Ltd 19 Nov 1971 [26 Nov 1970] 44761/70 Heading B1C [Also in Division A1] Mushroom spawn is mixed with growing compound (substratum) by a tined member mixing device 6, Fig. 2, which may be rotatable (as described) or agitable and which is mounted to be movable between an operative and an inoperative position on a drum 9 formed by end plates 14, 15 and a shaft 13. The shaft is driven by a chain 16 and sprocket 17 so that the mixer can be raised clear or lowered for use. The mixer comprises a shaft 7 bearing spikes 8 and driven by a chain 23 from a motor (not shown). In operation, a tray 1, Fig. 1, containing substratum is fed by a chain conveyor 3 under a variable-volume-output spawn container and applicator 4. Mixing is effected by rotation of the spikes 8 in the direction of conveyance, when the mixer is lowered into the tray. Thereafter the surface is levelled by a spiked roller 10, and the tray is passed by a quicker-moving conveyor 3a to a lift device 11, which presses the subtratum surface against a tamping block, After growth and picking of the mushrooms, the trays are emptied and recycled.
