Abstract

1343632 Escalator hand rails E KOCH 19 April 1971 [29 Jan 1970 1 July 1970] 20359/71 Heading B8A A drivable handrail for moving stairways comprises individual interconnected links 1, each link comprising a base 2 from which legs 3 depend, the handrail being driven by means of a gear 11 engaging with gear teeth 5 on the base 2, a guide frame 10 having lips 15 engaging a longitudinal groove 6 formed in the links 1, each link 1 being formed with a further groove 8 at one end and a tongue 13 at the other end, the links being interconnected by the engagement of the tongue 13 of one link with the groove 8 of the next adjacent link, a U-shaped compressible resilient insert 45 lines each groove 8 to provide resilient coupling with the associated tongue 13. In a second embodiment, Fig. 8 (not shown), the resilient insert is a round cord-like device (40), and in a third embodiment, Figs. 9-16 (not shown), tongues (13) are located at both sides of the teeth (5), a resilient clamping hook (47) being formed on each of the said tongues which hook into respective recesses (48) formed on each of the coupling pieces (76) in which the grooves (8) are formed.
