Abstract
1,228,104. Intercell connectors. VARTA A.G. 6 May, 1969 [24 Oct., 1968; 14 Feb., 1969], No. 23124/69. Heading H1B. Intercell connectors comprise bridge and connector assemblies 4 which pass through openings in the cell separating walls 6 and have a thickened portion 5 in the region of the said openings and has a groove running round it for engaging the cell walls 6. The region of the groove facing the base of the opening is provided with a dovetail underail 7. After the sets of accumulators plates 3, which have been provided with the bridge and connector assembly, have been pressed into accumulator case 1 which is made of a synthetic plastics material, an injection mould which is in intimate contact with the cell wall 6 is placed in position on at least one of the bridge and connector assemblies and synthetic plastics material is injected to seal the intercell connection. Advantageously, after the injection mould has been placed in position, pressure is applied to those regions of the thickened portion 5 which extend above and to the side of the openings in cell walls 6 so as to form dovetail undercuts in those regions. The cell walls 6 are provided in the vicinity of the openings with a thickened region which conveniently extends to the base. A groove passes round the opening and may be of rounded or triangular cross-section. The edges of this groove can be pressed together after the bridge and connector assembly have been introduced into the case to achieve a more efficient seal.
