Abstract

1362890 Casting accumulator cell terminals SOC FULMEN and COMPAGNIE EUROPEENNE D'AOCUMULATEURS 3 July 1972 31115/72 Heading B3F [Also in Division H1] In a method of forming a terminal on an accumulator cell having a box provided on one wall 1 with an aperture 2 surrounded by a spigot 7, a mould 6 is placed against said wall so that a socket in the mould engages the spigot and molten lead poured into the mould cavity to form the terminal. The aperture 2 is provided with a plurality of radial notches 4 interconnected by an annular groove 5, both the groove and notches becoming filled with molten lead. The cell post 3 which projects through the aperture 2 into the mould is provided with projections 8 equal in number to the notches 4. Packings 10 and 11 of rubber or elastomeric material ensure fluid tightness between the post 3 and lid 1 and between the terminal and lid 1. The aperture 2 may be provided in a side wall of the cell. In an embodiment, the cell post and a bar connecting the plate lugs are formed at the same time as the terminal, the molten lead passing through the aperture into a further mould located within the cell.
