Abstract
1,224,756. Ingot moulds. FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd. 5 Sept., 1969 [5 Sept., 1968], No. 42226/68. Heading B3F. A big-end-up ingot mould comprises an upper 1 and lower 2 section, the upper section 1 having vertical slots 4 in at least two of its walls. An exothermic or heat-insulating lining 6 is provided in the upper section 1; the lining extending below the joint line 3 between the two sections into the lower section 2. Lifting lugs 5 are provided on the upper section 2 and to prevent molten metal breakthrough metal sheet covering 7 may be provided to cover the slots 4. The joint 3 can be sealed by a refractory sealing compound and the upper section can be tied down by the lugs 5. To remove a cast ingot from the mould, the tangs of a crane grab enter the slots 4 to engage and lift the ingot.
