1,223,850. Fumigants containing alkylene oxides. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 13 Nov., 1968 [27 Nov., 1967], No. 53845/67. Heading A5E. A fumigant composition comprises an alkylene oxide, such as ethylene or propylene oxide, and a C 1 to C 4 halogenated alkane containing bromine and/or iodine, e.g. CH 3 I, CH 3 Br, CBrF 3 , CClBrF 2 , CBr 2 F 2 , or C 2 Br 2 F 4 . Optional ingredients specified are diluents, such as CO 2 , N 3 , CCl 4 , C 2 H 3 Cl 3 , C 2 Cl 4 and C 2 HCl 3 ; and aerosol propellents or refrigerants, such as CCl 3 F, CCl 2 F 2 , CClF 3 , C 2 Cl 2 F 4 and C 2 ClF 5 . The fumigants find application in sterilizing medical equipment and clothing.
