Heading A5A In fighting fires or halogenated synthetic resins the extinguishing agent comprises one or more additives which react chemically with the halogens to convert them and their acids to harmless substances. The main extinguishant may be water or a solid agent e.g. perlite and the additive(s) alkali or alkaline earth metal oxides or hydroxides, particular NaOH or Ca(OH) 2 .
